For local recreational activities, the Buttonwillow Park offers a perfect setting. Two lighted baseball diamonds provide for very active Little League and Babe Ruth programs. Well-lighted tennis courts provide an added attraction at the park. The Buttonwillow Recreation & Park District provides full year-round programs for all ages such as basketball and volleyball. A complete swimming and summer recreational program is in operation throughout the summer months.

Buttonwillow is ideally located so that a pleasant drive can take residents (or visitors) to recreation areas in the Sierra Nevada Mountains or the idyllic beaches of the refreshing Pacific Ocean. There are four public golf courses within 30-minute drive. A short drive south (16 miles) can take you to the beautiful Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area. In addition to Buena Vista, anglers report great catches from the fishing spots along the Kern River. Only 10 miles southeast of Buttonwillow is the famous Tule Elk State Reserve. Visiting the park during the two o’clock, feeding will give spectators an especially close up look at the magnificent animals.

The Buttonwillow Raceway Park, located 8 miles north of Buttonwillow, is a popular site for car club racing events. The location, variety and safety have made the Buttonwillow Raceway Park the preferred racing and testing facility in California.
